"It’s crazy to think that our music has reached that far away from home..."

A conversation with drummer Justin Foley a month after the release of "As Daylight Dies" - the fourth studio album by the Massachusetts metalcore quintet Killswitch Engage.

Vassil Varbanov: Hey, Justin, how are you doing, mate?

Justin Foley: I’m doing great. How are you doing?

V. V.: Well, it's amazing, because this is your first interview for this bloody place called Bulgaria. What comes to your mind when you hear me saying “Bulgaria”?

J. F.: It’s a place really far away. It’s crazy to think that our music has reached that far away from home.

V. V.: Ok, next question: What are you up to now?

J. F.: Right now we’re on a tour in the US with Hatebreed, Bury Your Dad and Two Cents, and we got in Virginia today and we’re trying to get out and do our Christmas shopping.

V. V.: Would you guys ever record a cover of a traditional Christmas song?

J. F.: We love Christmas, and that guarantees that you’ll get played every year. That’s for sure.

V. V.: To what point are you aware of the fact that rock'n'roll and heavy metal existed before the band Killswitch Engage was born?

J. F.: It’s been out there for a very long time and in very different forms, probably even longer than I’ve been around. So that’s why we’re trying to be a little different than anything before than just being part of it. We’re proud that people come to our shows and like our music. It’s pretty amazing.

V. V.: Do you like Slayer?

J. F.: I grew up listening to them a lot. I was trying to learn the drum parts. I spend a lot of time trying to do that...

V. V.: Who of you guys is the biggest wanker?

J. F.: That would be Adam, our guitar player. Adam is the biggest one about everything. He’s the biggest joker on stage... I don’t know... He’s just a different dude. He’s amazing and keeps surprising me, but I love him.

V. V.: What do you hate the most about giving interviews?

J. F.: Hearing the same questions over and over. That’s why I like this one – you didn’t ask those questions. So I thank you for that.

V. V.: Thank you very much for being with us, and Merry Christmas!
