It is true that we weren’t many people last night. On the other hand, it is true (yes, I know it is a clichй but it’s the naked truth) that the Bulgarian audience was a step ahead of the band it came to see.
Because the sparing of words Glen Benton shortly before the last song mumbled that we were great and that this very concert has been the highlight of the tour. And in this case this means a lot.
Well, then DEICIDE hid after an hour on the stage and never came back on it, leaving the unfortunate 'Blue Box' shaking under the growls “Dei-Cide-Dei-Cide” for more than ten minutes. But this is not that important.
The important thing begins with the fact that the next big name from the extreme metal scene plays here. The important thing is that there is another reason for friends, fans and co-drunkards to gather at the 'Blue Box' in the Saturday evening and to exchange stenches, shitty beers and cheap vodka. And the heroes are doing it for hours. So eagerly that HATEBOMB playВ in front ofВ 50 people.
For your information, these are actually the guys of Staro Zlo (Old Evil) who changed their name after the next line-up cataclysm but their music firmly remains the same – strong and kicking death metal. Raw material in ideal form.
Two or three people are headbanging another two or three are yelling, about twenty others just stand and stare – some of them glad, other inadequate, the remaining orcs are swallowing gallons of beer and they would be happy even with the finals of the world squash championship if only the sound was transmitted through distortion. HATEBOMB really are powerful and I note for myself to track their gigs and before I even realize what is happening, the tape rewinds with eight years backwards.
NECROMANCER are back on stage! I remember what Hristo from Vrani Volosa told me two days ago: “We went to their rehearsals yesterday. Man, go and see them, they kick ass!” And it is true. I just began to think that this name brings good taste in my mouth and the guys (and gal) from Burgas show me why – because they are good. Really good!
Strong death metal from the nineties with enough melodies, riffs, dynamic compositions, two bands from the seaside on the t-shirts respectively Vrani Volosa and Artery (well, the Lamia is also the drummer of The Pomorians), Irina growls behind the keyboard and the people in the hall scream with pleasure, remembering the old times. Rosen wishes us goodbye with вЂMemories’ and I know that I won’t miss their gig with Scapegoat and HATEBOMB at 'The Box' on 26th of June. I wanna headbang, goddamn it!
ENTHRALLMENT from PLeven happen to be the real warm up for the show. While they lay down their death-grind hammers to our heads we witness the first real moshpit, the first heating of the air and the first group chants in the crowd.
With a guest-guitarist but enough will to burn up the audience, the five guys give a strong fist and are the Bulgarian band that gains the most cheers and screams to get back on stage.
The schedule is strict and there aren’t improvised encores. Only improvised leapfrogs among the people while aiming to the exit, led by beer-thirst, I almost run over a metalhead, thrown down the floor from the alcohol fatigue and sleeping like a baby a couple of meters from the desk.
“What a hero”, I am thinking when I see two more sleeping beauties, leaning to each other in the foyer just in front the sitcom “Draft beer” from which I order a half-liter episode too.
Once upon the cross... there was a massacre during one hour. DEICIDE are before us, Jack Owen, Glen Benton and Kevin Quirion have turned their backs on us, throw a tone on the guitars, turn around and… the next sixty minutes of death metal in your face are hard to describe.
В
One of the classic bands for the style, forged its name in the last twenty minutes pours blasphemies, fierce speed and machinegun executions from the drums of Steve Asheim while Glen Benton screams obscurantisms and spits on all that is holy. Scars Of The Crucifix, When Satan Rules His World, Blame It On God, his godless revelations are accepted rapturously from more than 500 people who proudly present their bodies in the meat-mincer of the moshpit for the horror and pure irritation of the imbeciles from the security and sift punches on their fellows in the ritual of total metal delight.
Shortly before 11 PM the band hides behind the stage, the crowd screams not for five hundred but for five thousand people, the four metallers return, shoot out their last two satanic volleys, slaughtering verbally the Christians and leave while the throats call for a deicide.
The first wave passes by and after the coming meeting with Venom and Mayhem I prefer not to think of the immortality of my poor soul.
