Lenny Kravitz with a love rock revolution
28 July 2008Yeah, on 27th of July “Academic” stadium was arena of the musical message for love of one of the most successful and charismatic contemporary artists. And over 15 thousands of visitors were swept away of more than two hours emotional blast; one wonderful gift in the fresh summer night which left us enraptured, smiling and happy after the approach to the love revolution of Lenny. Amazing show, great sound perfect organization by Joker Media and the wonderful Lenny Kravitz. It was only a day after Metallica.
The stadium was slowly getting filled with people in motley clothes in good mood, bearing a beer or two from the many stands. Groups of people were sitting on the grass, taking their seats or were gathering behind the fence ahead the stage and the weather was caressing with nice coolness, promising a beautiful night. And the rhythm of the evening was started by Ostava who came out exactly in 8 PM with one of their last hits “Sex in the Morning” and in the next thirty minutes they introduced to the public some of their new songs before treat us with a piece of “Chocolate” and to leave the stage for Lenny.
And when he leaped under the opening track “Bring it On”, the stadium was already filled and he was welcomed by a sonar wave of cheers and endless forest of raised up hands. And from that time on there followed more than two hours trip in the so specific funky soul rock of the swarthy singer, combining in it the explosion of the 70s, the audio-visual passage of the 80s and so much authenticity. And from 2008 he made a long jump with 17 years back and “Always on the Run”. The crowd shook the ground with jumps, Lenny emitted the music with every move of his body, infected long ago the musicians of his amazing band with his charisma.
The stage was shaking, deep in the colorful feast of the spotlights, the loudspeakers were pouring wonderful pop rock that seemed to be written especially for wide open spaces, the musicians were going crazy and the audience didn’t cease to applause hit after hit and was taking it to the limit. As Lenny did. The songs not for once flowed into hypnotic jam sessions, spread as a background for the good mood, the long-lasting clapping in time and the unceasing confessions of the singer-multi-instrumentalist and composer to the people before him. The saxophone was telling warm tales of Chicago jazz-clubs, the bass guitar and the unmistakable voice of the Gibson threw the music from the funk to the electric hard-rock and Lenny was singing, jumping and playing tirelessly. Not once he expressed his joy of the wonderful crowd and he shook hand with literally everybody on the first rows, calling out smiles and sincere applauses.
The setlist was wisely chosen colorful bouquet of his works but enriched with the common prolonging of the songs and enforced by the presence of the musicians on stage. “Dancin’ Till Down” flowed into the hymnal chorus of “Another Brick in the Wall” by the titans Pink Floyd, just to leap in the skies of the pop music of the 80s with Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean. The eternal hit of the Canadians The Guess Who “American Woman” erupted in “Fly Away”, which the public sang with full lungs and, screaming over the powerful equipment and “Let Love Rule” was long love message while Lenny Kravitz was climbing on the fence to be the closest possible to his fans. Fans that didn’t let him go and their loud cheers were granted. He returned on the stage, admitted that this concert and the people before him would stay for long in his heart and then the world exploded with the insane riff of “Are You Gonna Go My Way”. The next creative bow to the big ones of the rock revolution from the 60s and 70s; while the lyrical songs of Lenny Kravitz remind of The Beatles, this audioexplosion is loaded with the detonating compounds of Jimmy Hendrix. And 15 thousand sang, jumped, clapped with hands and danced, ready the night to last forever. And like every revolution, this one too burst for good but let the flame to burn in the ones who took part in it.
