"To be nominated was amazing, but we just wanted to have fun, and at the end of it, when we went to the ceremony, there was a lot of free booze, so everything was ok!"

A conversation with David Proctor - vocalist of Scotland's metalcore machines Mendeed - about the band's new albm "The Dead Live by Love", the "battle" with Bullet for My Valentine, and what it's like to drink everything and everywhere...

Vassil Varbanov: Hello David, how are you doing?

David Proctor: Hey, I'm fine, thank you!

V. V.: Obviously, we'll be talking about the upcomign third album by Mendeed, so please, give us all the details.

D. P.: It's gonna be out in Europe on February 16. It's called "The Dead Live by Love", and it's one of the best metal albums you're going to hear this year! It's a combination of everything - from power metal to death metal, old-school thrash, etc.

V. V.: Twelve new songs, right?

D. P.: Yeah.

V. V.: Actually, with your previous records you became popular even down here, in Bulgaria. At the same time, as far as I remember, you got some nominations for last year's Kerrang Awards... but you didn't get anything. Was this a big disappointment for you guys?

D. P.: No, not at all. To be nominated was amazing, but we just wanted to have fun, and at the end of it, when we went to the ceremony, there was a lot of free booze, so everything was ok.

V. V.: Here comes another question concerning the modern metal scene in the UK. It seems that you guys, Mendeed from Scotland, are a bit like in the shade of Bullet for My Valentine from Wales in terms of international success. Am I wrong?

D. P.: Bullet for My Valentine are absolutely huge, they're much bigger than us in the world. Those guys have got no breaks.

V. V.: Well, it's not so common that a band from the UK works with a German label, so how do you feel?

D. P.: Nuclear Blast Records is a fantastic company. It's good to be part of them, the promotion and marketing of that label are superb, and some of our favourite bands have walked through those doors - Children of Bodom, In Flames... So just to be there, among these names, is very special for us.

V. V.: David, try to guess what the new 2007 is going to bring to you and your bandmates?

D. P.: I think it's gonna take us up to a new level. So far the reviews for the new album have been fantastic, so I think things are gonna happen for Mendeed this year. We'll be touring a lot, having some fun... and drinking a fuckin' shitload of beer!

V. V.: You're Scottish. Does it mean you drink onlyВ beer and whiskey?

D. P.: No, we drink anything - Jaegermeister, whiskey, beer... anything.

V. V.: Ok. Which song of the 12 new ones are you particularly proud of?

D. P.: I'm proud of the whole album, really, and it's hard to take one song... Well, I can tell you my favourite three - "Burning Fear", "Our War" and "The Dead Live by Love".

V. V.: By the way, Mr. Procter, did you ever take any vocal lessons?

D. P.: No, no, ha-ha-ha! You don't need any for screaming.

V. V.: Well, thank you very much for being with us once again, asВ this is your second interview for Tangra Mega Rock.

D. P.: Yeah, thank you very much!
