"I'm the frontman, the One Man Army, and I've got The Undead Quartet behind me..."

Former The Crown vocalist Johan Lindstrand talks about the new album "Error in Evolution" by his current band One Man Army & The Undead Quartet.

Vassil Varbanov: Johan, how are you?

Johan Lindstrand: I'm fine.

V. V.: There's a new album by One Man Army & The Undead Quartet coming out very soon (March 9, 2007). First question: Why the hell did you do this cover version of Alice Coopers's song "He's Back (The Man Behind the Mask)"?

J. L.: Well, the reaon for doing this cover is just because I wanted to do it for a long, long time - since the days when I was in The Crown. For some strange reason it never happened, so I told the idea to my new band mates. They liked it, so we even decided to put it on the regular album instead of using it as a bonus track. I love the original and I think we managed to do a cool version of it.

V. V.: Especially the bass is very present.

J. L.: Yeah.

V. V.: The whole album sounds really great. Could you please give us some technical details, like how long it took you to record it, etc.?

J. L.: We entered the studio last October, and we were there for five weeks. It was a place called Studio Deadline, which is owned and operated by a guy called Valle Adzic, who happens to be the ex-bass player of One Man Army & The Undead Quartet. We moved to this studio simply because it's more fresh and not expensive, so we could be there for a longer time and work on the sound. Everything went very smoothly and we're satisfied with the result, so hopefully people will like the new album's production. I think it's very heavy.

V. V.: What were you drinking during the recordings?

J. L.: Water, he-he... You know, we worked very seriously for five weeks straight and we didn't party in the studio or anything. It was just pure serious work.

V. V.: By the way, are you already used to your band's long name, or you call it just One Man Army?

J. L.: The reason for having this long name is because I'm very fond of the 60's - bands back then used to have such long names, and that's basically where the inspiration for it came from. You know, I'm the frontman, the One Man Army, and I've got The Undead Quartet behind me. I thing it's cool to put this idea into the extreme genre, so that's the name of our band - One Man Army & The Undead Quartet.
