"When you look at us, you'll see four people who really love death metal."

After calling it quits in 2004, Holland's death metal veterans Sinister return with a new line-up and a smashing comeback album, "Afterburner". Just a few days before presenting it in Sofia, Bulgaria in April 2006, former drummer and current vocalist Aad Kloosterwaard revealed what to expect from the show...

Vassil Varbanov: How are you doing, Aad?

Aad Kloosterwaard: I'm ok, and I'm really happy that I can do this interview!

V. V.: You come back with a vengeance and a great new album, which you're gonna present in Sofia, Bulgaria this week, too. However, what was the reason to call it a day something like two years ago?

A. K.: Because of many, many problems inside the band and the members, which were going on for a long time. It had started to drive me crazy all the time. Then I talked to our bass player Alex Paul, who's now Sinister's guitarist, and we got to the conclusion that this is no fun anymore. The only reason to play in Sinister was for fun, but there was too much shit that we didn't want to do, so we called it a day.

V. V.: Then why did you decide to come back?

A. K.: After the split me and Alex remained good friends and continued making music together. The songs we were composing were really good - you can hear them now on "Afterburner". At that time I switched from drums to vocals, so we had to find a drummer and we were lucky to get Paul Beltman. We were ready to start as a three-piece, as we were already missing playing with Sinister and doing live shows. Besides, we knew the new material is good as our old stuff, maybe even better, so we said, "Fuck it, we'll start Sinister again!"

V. V.: Then we shouldn't call Sinister death metal anymore, but rather resurrection metal, huh?

A. K.: Yeah, maybe, ha-ha!

V. V.: Let's now talk about your first ever concert in Bulgaria, scheduled to happen in Sofia in the end of this week. How does your band look and sound like when you play live?

A. K.: We go for it 100%! When you look at us, you'll see people who really love this kind of music. We are totally devoted to it. Besides, when I sing the lyrics I try to show people everything I think and feel, we use intros to the songs in order to be recognized by everybody and... All in all, you'll get an energetic show full of headbanging, blast beats and everything that belongs to a good death metal concert. I think we're doing a really good job, because all our shows so far got absolutely amazing reactions.
