A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in an attack following a Motörhead concert in Leeds last Thursday night.

The tragic incident, which took place in Leeds city centre, is believed to have been spurred by an altercation at Motörhead’s O2 Academy gig.

Police called to the scene found 44 year-old Andrew Crawford (pictured below) with serious injuries. He died later at Leeds General Infirmary.

Police said Crawford had been struck on the head several times. Two men were seen fleeing the scene.

Police believe the incident is connected to an earlier incident during the Motörhead show, in which a friend of Crawford’s had his hair set alight by someone standing nearby.

Det Supt Paul Taylor, leading the inquiry, said:

“There will have been around 2,000 people in the O2 Academy and someone must have seen Mr Crawford’s friend’s hair being set alight. If you can help identify this person, please get in touch.”

Witnesses are asked to contact police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555.
