An attempt to have statues erected in Stoke-on-Trent to honour both Lemmy and Slash (Lemmy was born in the city, while Slash spent some of his early years there) has failed.

A petition, signed by 318 people, was presented to the city council, and referred to the Economic Development Overview And Scrutiny Committee. However they turned the application down.

Blabbermouth reports that Labour councillor Matt WilcoxВ (pictured below)В said of this:

“I think this idea is a complete waste of time and effort, and the petition was the wrong way for this to be brought to us.

“It’s actually quite selfish to focus on these two specific artists, and I think there should be a more diverse monument to the range of that this city has produced.

“If it was a bit broader then it could be a fantastic contribution to Hanley’s Cultural Quarter.”

Other famous people from Stoke include E.J. Smith, captain of the Titanic, and Robbie Williams. Heroes all.
