Guitar Hero has been axed.

The hugely popular game, which has helped to resurrect the careers of several classic rock bands, has been in a steep decline saleswise for the past few years.

When Guitar Hero III came out in 2007 it sold 1.5 million copies in the first month. By contrast the latest edition, Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock, sold less than 100,000 copies in its first month on sale.

So, manufacturers Activision have shut it down with immediate effect.
