A letter from the desk of Primus frontman and bassist Les Claypool reveals that the band's first studio record in 12 years is almost a wrap.

The wacky trio debuted a number entitled "Last Salmon Man" during a New Year's Eve gig in Oakland, Calif.

"For those of you that enjoyed the new song, 'Last Salmon Man,' that we played New Year's, you'll love the record because every song basically sounds exactly the same as that one," Claypool says in his letter, which was posted to his website on Monday.

"In fact, we just kept recording the same song over and over and I would just change a few of the lyrics around."

While this is supposed to be read as facetious, keep in mind that there is an element of truth in every joke. The majority of Primus's material does sound like the same tune ad nauseum.

Primus' manager apparently wasn't all too-happy about Claypool publicly singling out the band's unoriginality and so he threw in this addendum:

"Every song is pretty much a variation of 'Don't Fear the Reaper' by Blue Г–yster Cult. Everyone should buy two copies."
