Bob Rock, the mega-producer behind such massive hits as Metallica’s “Black Album” and Mötley Crüe’s Dr. Feelgood, is now setting his sites on one of the biggest hitmakers of the early ’80s, Loverboy.

Rock, who engineered the band’s debut album (which included the FM staple, “Turn Me Loose”), contacted the Calgary, Alberta band, who were four years removed from their last album, 2007’s Just Getting Started.

“He phoned Mike [Reno, singer] and me out of the blue and told us he had a song that might work for us that he’d love to produce,” guitarist Paul Dean told Undercover.fm. “He sent it over and we just flipped out. It’s a great, kick-ass Loverboy song.”

Dean was enthused about the new album, which features all of the band’s surviving original members (original bassist, Scott Smith, died in a boating accident in 2000).

“It was just fantastic to be on the same page with everybody else in the band again. We had been through several false starts recording-wise over the years. Mike was really inspired this time. It was a great experience. I think these tracks are some of the best work we’ve ever done.”
