TV On The Radio bassist Gerard Smith has passed away from lung cancer after his battle with the disease was revealed just last month.

Smith, who was just 34 years old, died yesterday, according to a post on the band's website.

"We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer," they said in a statement. "We will miss him terribly."

Smith was diagnosed with lung cancer just as TV On The Radio had completed their just released Nine Types Of Light album and had been undergoing treatment.
