Ex QOTSA bassist in SWAT standoff with rifle
19 July 2011Nick Oliveri is arrested after heated argument with his girlfriend becomes a two-hour armed hostage drama at his LA apartment
Former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliver was behind bars last night after an argument with his girlfriend became a two-hour standoff against a Los Angeles SWAT team.
The drama took place at Oliveri’s apartment, where he and his partner had argued the night before. She returned to collect some belongings and another fight kicked off.
A neighbour called the police, who attended the scene. But Oliveri, 29, wouldn’t let them enter his home and wouldn’t let his girlfriend leave.
A SWAT team were called and a two-hour standoff ensued. Eventually he let her go, then two hours later, surrendered himself.
On searching the premises officers found a fully-loaded high power rifle.
Oliveri was booked for domestic violence and has been released on $100,000 bail.
He was a member of Josh Homme’s band Kyuss before becoming bassist for QOTSA in 1998. He was fired in 2004.
