This past weekend saw Pearl Jam performing at Alpine Valley, WI in celebration of the their 20th anniversary.

Among some of the highlights of the weekend-long show, there was an unexpected Temple Of The Dog reunion as Soundgarden‘s Chris Cornell joined Pearl Jam onstage to perform “Hunger Strike”, “Reach Down”, and “Say Hello To Heaven”. As an added bonus, the band with Cornell also performed Mother Love Bone‘s “Stardog Champion”.

If you know your Seattle/Pearl Jam/Soundgarden/etc. history you’re aware that Temple Of The Dog was Cornell’s tribute to his friend and roommate Andrew Wood who fronted Mother Love Bone. Wood was poised for stardom with his band until a drug overdose ended his life. Cornell was joined in Temple Of The Dog by former Mother Love Bone members Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard and guitarist friend Mike McCready, Matt Cameron (of Soundgarden) on drums and newly-acquainted San Diego native friend Eddie Vedder. The group sans Cornell and Cameron went on to form Pearl Jam and the rest is history as they say. This unexpected reunion at PJ20 was a high-note for all those in attendance.
