Gibson guitar legend Les Paul is getting a new granite memorial to mark his gravesite in Wisconsin.

His family and friends are planning a public dedication ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 10 at his grave at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha. Les Paul’s guitar prowess originally earned him the nickname “The Wizard of Waukesha.”

The Les Paul Estate commissioned Rock of Ages of Vermont to design, build and install the new 500 square-foot granite monument. Visitors can walk into the monument to read about Les Paul. Granite slabs containing Paul’s biography and a list of his most significant awards encircle benches for visitors. Paul chose the hometown location of his burial himself.

“The memorial shares Les’s legacy with all who visit the site. We are very pleased with how everything looks. Les chose to be in Waukesha. We know the people of his hometown will cherish this site as Les Paul cherished his hometown,” said Michael Braunstein of the Les Paul Foundation.

You can watch a live stream of the event via the Les Paul Foundation at this location.
