BEAVIS and BUTT-HEAD banned from music vid abuse

The comeback series of Beavis and Butt-Head sees the cartoon characters shouting at clips from reality TV shows instead of music videos – because modern rights laws have got in the way.

Mike Judge’s immature fanboys are remembered for commentating on music promos in episodes which ran for 200 episodes between 1993 and 1997.

Now they’re back – but will appear without the key element.

Judge tells Rolling Stone: “It used to be that we could do anything. Now we have to clear everything.

“We were going to do a Kanye West video – he wanted it on, and then somebody who owns, like, six percent of the songwriting said no.”

Beavis and Butt-Head will appear sporting their Metallica and AC/DC shirts – but Judge even had to seek legal clearance for those details.

But he says of the show which he almost single-handedly created before suffering burnout: “There was a conscious decision to have nobody grow or learn much.

“The characters pop. Somehow you get more out of it than you put into it.”
