VELVET UNDERGROUND to sue ANDY WARHOL over banana image
13 January 2012The Velvet Underground are taking legal action – over a banana!
The band are angry that the Andy Warhol Foundation has sold the iconic banana design, which was used on the cover of the 1967 album The Velvet Underground & Nico, to Apple. This is for use in iPad and iPhone products.
In the lawsuit, the band claim that the image has become closely associated with them, and that by selling it the Foundation are cheapening the Velvet Underground and linking them with products they’d never endorse.
