Grammy-winning Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has signed on to perform a Feb. 16 benefit show in San Francisco to raise money for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign.

The event will take place at the the historic Regency Center reception hall (pictured below).

Tickets to the fundraiser — which will cost $100 for general seating, $1,000 for preferred seating and $7,500 for preferred seating paired with the opportunity to have a photo taken with President Obama — are available online here, with proceeds obviously going to Obama’s campaign.

These days Cornell lives most of the year with his wife in Paris, and when Obama won the 2008 Presidential election, he liked the unique perspective that being an expat gave him on American politics. “It’s good to get away from the States and look back through the lens that other people see us through,” he told Metro Canada right after the election. “What happened on [Election Day] changes that view an awful lot.”

Soundgarden, who recently headed to Australia to rock the Big Day Out 2012 festival, are expected to release their first album since 1996′s ‘Down On the Upside’ this spring.
