THE FALL OF TROY Manipulator (2007)
06 June 2007
You’re looking for a freak-out band without any of the contemporary clichés? Good news: Your searching is over! The Fall of Troy from Seattle will fill the apparent gap, opened unconsciously (at least I believe so) by zillions of generic metalcore bands in the recent years.
Be warned though, because if you’re going to explore TFoT in too much of a rush, you will miss the point of “Manipulator”. This album manifests a constant stream of brain-melting ideas. Think early Genesis who meet At the Drive In at CBGB’s, as wacky as it sounds! This album is a soundtrack to a paralysing panic attack. It has virtuoso solos put into the middle of nothing, crooned choruses and seemingly false endings.
“Manipulator”, like the previous TFoT release, “Doppelganger”, boasts off with very long song titles such as the opener “Cut Down All the Trees and Name the Streets After Them”, but even people who hate emo titles have to admit that inheritance is not the most important thing with this band. It’s the ferocious changing rhythm, weird timing and pop-eyed chaotic shrieks. All in all, The Fall of Troy are dishing out an album that can not and, most importantly, must not be described in words. Let’s just say the talent, thought and passion put into “Manipulator” make its listening a deeply disturbing and at the same time satisfying experience. Not for all though.
