Gallows were noticed and eventually picked up by Warmer after their In at the Deep End debut release “Orchestra of Wolves” last year. Now it’s been reissued, repackaged with new artwork and completed with a bonus CD featuring 6 BBC sessions tracks, two new ones and a cover of Black Flag’s “Nervous Breakdown”. If you haven’t already heard of Gallows because of their poor distribution, now this is your chance to do it. Unless you hate good old punk in the vein of Misfits, you will love ‘em instantly. There are so few good punk bands these days that it seems easy to impress people by doing it properly, and Gallows not only have the balls and the talent to play punk the way it was designed to be played, but also have the obligatory nasty reputation of dickheads and morons. Frank Carter, the vocalist, is just dying to leap into his audience and surf a little, showing his grinning smile to everyone. They are not The Sex Pistols, of course, and it’s not the 70’s anymore, but the taste of that time somehow fuses through Gallows’s screamo anthems with the typical sheer enthusiasm we know (or have heard of) quite well. Still one question remains: Why does the mark above say 4 then? Well, if you have the original In at the Deep End release, it’s highly unlikely that you’re going to take the piss by buying a reissue for a bonus CD that is not exactly as essential as it was proclaimed. Stupid, stupid marketing!
