If Hopesfall weren't a band, they would surely be fashion police officers or something. Deliberately or not, these guys have undergone a dozen of radical changes from being simply a Christian hardcore band up to the current shape of wannabe stadium rock stars. Many people wrote off Hopesfall through the years, especially when they released "A-Types" after the so much anticipated "The Satellite Years". "Magnetic North" is a deep and listenable album with much texture put into it, though it severely suffers from lack of sonic weight. Despite the complexity and openness you can hardly give it more than just a couple of listens. There are some great melodies, almost melancholically Deftoned in approach, but they somehow lack the catchiness Hopesfall once had. All these aspects make "Magnetic North" tiresome and sometimes even boring. All in all, Hopesfall tried to create a true rock epic, but fell flat because they couldn't keep themselves focused. And it's still not clear what direction should they go with their next album. Now that scares people, believe me.
