It took them more or less 8 years to follow their 2000 debut full-length effort “We Will Desroy, You Will Obey” (1999), but every minute of the new release “The Storm Before the Calm” is woth waiting. Clocking in no more than the ordinary, if not obligatory for the classic times 40 minutes, Dekapitator’s first release for Relapse (known to many for way more avant-garde productions like Harvey’s Milk) is a rapid-fire explosive substance to handle. Now everyone can clearly see why Dekapitator are pointed as guilty for the new thrash metal renaissance. Because, my friends and neighbors, they fucking rule! Without being innovative, this band has released the right thing in the right moment. And isn’t it emblematic that people from Exhumed, Cretin and Repulsion (all of them death metal to the bone) are putting up like Metallica, Exodus and Testament did long ago? There’s nothing more convincing than the song titles themselves: “Run with the Pack”, “Toxic Sanctuary”, “Screams from the Holocaust” and the aptly christened “The Scourging”. Brave, malicious intended and as heavy as a jackhammer breaking human bones into pieces, “The Storm Before the Calm” is an evidence of a band on top of their game. And they are not going to lose out any fans, but only gather new denim and leather clad armies instead. That’s for sure.
