EVILE Enter the Grave (2007)

It’s indisputable that the Internet has radically changed the ways we discover new music. However, with a whole universe of new releases, sometimes we miss what’s right under our noses the whole time. The thing in question is the overwhelming, mega-exciting thrash attack coming from Great Britain. Evile, being not only part of it, but also leaders of the pack, had the chance to work with the infamous good old Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen and delivered one of the most anticipated metal releases this year, very cunningly christened “Enter the Grave”. Well, now it’s official. This shit kills! It kicks off with brutal, madly-technical, Slayeresque thrash metal and practically doesn’t change the pace until the very end of the record. Once you get beyond the assumed limitations of the genre, you’re in for a damn enjoyable and frequently impressive listening experience. Riffs start and develop from mosh-starters to malign and threatening numbers, attacking your brains like unleashed WWII bombers from hell. In terms of production it’s typical Rassmussen - very tremble, mostly high-pitched, but not bassless like “…and Justice for All”. However, it’s way better than your average Andy Sneap look-alike releases... But let’s talk about the essence. Ah, the essence, you say… Well, Evile will never become media darlings with song titles like “Burned Alive”, Schizophrenia” and “Bathe In Blood” (Slayer anyone?). No slots for more Slayers and Metallicas in the market, you know, but judging by the results when I played Evile’s debut to some of the die-hard thrashers, I dare to say, these guys have one incredible future among all those constantly weeping and murmuring old fashioned purists, who often like to say that there’s nothing good in the current metal stage. No more! There’s no excuse for such rubbish talking anymore. These guys, still in their early 19s, hit and thrash like the past 20 years have never existed. Still not sure? It’s your choice. I will be giggling from behind when Evile get awarded with best newcomers or something.
