Sometimes you just know when a band is destined to do great things. We’re talking about bands that have the tunes which can leave you speechless and slack-jawed at the quality and originality of the material. Well, Every Time I Die is such a band. They won’t name you their influences, because they do not have any. Judging by “The Big Dirty”, it seems to be true. Showcasing a so far untried method of injecting twisted lyrics and disconcertingly malevolent guitar style into a southern rock pumped metalcore is not the only trademark of ETID. Being one of the most original bands in the genre since they created the monstrous “Gutter Phenomena”, Keith Buckely & Co. constantly evolve their mastery of delivering chaotic, sweaty and bizarre rock’n’roll drenched with bourbon and beer. Listening to “The Big Dity” takes balls. From the very first notes of the opener “No Son of Mine” you are introduced to big, fatty riffs and ironic redneck lyrics as if they were written by people with mullets, old-fashioned moustache with corn pieces left from lunch entangled in, round bellies and beer stained shirts. The whole atmosphere is like that. This album doesn’t fit the current trends, but it surely can create one. Mixing southern rock in the vein of Lynyrd Skynyrd with grindcore isn’t obviously everyone’s cup of tea, but with every step they take, ETID make it even more “eatable”. So if you tend to like your music messy and groovy, with snarling vocals, sometimes in growling declaiming manner, “The Big Dirty” is exactly for you. As for the others, they have to get used to the fact, that times are changing and ETID is a change factor.
