Trivium are no longer the future of metal, but its contemporary situation despite the fact that the respected Bulgarian audience, who is used to Helloween gigs will make such a confession in about 10 years from now when every Bulgarian garage band will try to sound like Trivium do sound nowadays. This is not something I have not seen before, but I think it’s much more importasnt that even here a bunch of people will appreciate this album. First of all it’s a very coplex album that doesn’t show off its trappings. It just kills nearly everybody in the same category. Second, Nick Augusto is like a breath of fresh air for the band. He literally triggers new energy and dynamics. With this completely new approach to drums I must admit that quite a few things have chaged too. Trivium remain Trivium of course but tracks like ‘Forsake Not The Dream’ and ‘Black’ are pretty surprising and sometimes are lurking in weird territories. As long as I am concerned, “In Waves” is nearly as hard as ‘Ascendancy’ but you have to decide for yourself. That album is already 6 years old and it’s high time for many people to stop overestimating it as such a flawless effort. ‘In Waves’ is at least several times more brutal that the Metallica pantomime ‘The Crusade’ and more down to earth than ‘Shogun’. What makes him tick is the direct deadly punch, which is always enhanced by several layers of ipeccable musicianship. The only problem that I see in this new Trivium CD is the thing I mentioned in the beginning. They are no longer the future of metal and I hardly fall into one of these conditions in which I almost shit myself when a new album is about to be released. It’s simply not as exciting as it was once. I leave this part to the increasing Trivium army. And that’s not their problem for sure. More likely it’s the problem of ever seeking individuals like me and at the moment I’m far more obssessed with names like Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon and August Burns Red.
