On a few Internet sites Morgana Lefay’s music is defined as “power metal with thrash influences”. This is probably the most exact description of the original experiment made by these Swedes. Their country is one of the world’s metal music leaders, and it is not a surprise that Morgana Lefay also create the typical sound for that region. It wouldn’t be a mistake if we call them one of its creators, because their first attempts date back to the distant 1990. Their latest album impresses with a couple of things. First, the cover of “Aberrations of the Mind” is a piece of art that draws with its details and continues Morgana Lefay’s tradition to be elegant and conceptual. Second, the album is fast, tough and furious as a record made by a band which takes its first steps in music. Also impressive is the group’s effort to be up-to-date and topical, with a modern sound yet at the same time saving its identity. It stands on the things done in the beginning of 90’s, which could be both positive and negative... It is not clear how well songs like “Delusions” and “Make A Wish” would be adopted - they open the album powerfully and fierce, but they carry the spirit of thrash and power metal melodies from more than ten years ago. This doesn’t mean the songs sound old and archaic - on the contrary, they are catchy and shocking with their fast drums, melodies and unique vocal presence of Charles Rytkönen, however a bit the same in many ways, which is the main drawback of the album. It is not compulsory to search for variety when recording a CD, but in this case it would have been in Morgana Lefay’s advantage not only because we know that they have the abilities to make it, but because it will be a good surprise for the die-heart fans.
