OLYMPOS MONS Medievil (2007)
23 July 2007
The best thing when writing about a new album is to have something interesting and positive to tell about, but when we discuss topical power metal records, it happens to be a really hard task.
Olympos Mons, no matter how bad it sounds, are one of those young and ambitious bands that are not only choking the power metal scene, but are showing off their albums as high quality products. It’s a pity, but “Medievil” establishes the negative conclusion about the path chosen by them.
Even though the guys showed good stuff in their debut album three years ago, their current songs lead to contrary thoughts. There is nothing neither curious nor interesting in these ten tracks. Undeviating as with covers on their eyes, the musicians have obviously made “Medievil” with the hope to be heard by narrow-minded people. The result is one of the most meager and boring albums in the genre for this year.
It is superfluous to be written about each composition separately. There are only typical hymns about the great past times of the metal brotherhood, which now sound old and silly. The vocalist sings monotonous, the guitarist is playing to an already written formula, melodic couplet, then chorus, then solo... and the pictures looks clear. Without individuality. Simply useless.
