ANUBIS GATE Andromeda Unchained (2007)
25 July 2007
Sometimes I’m really surprised by the creativity of musicians to think out names for their bands. Passing through V-Axe, Graff Spree and Extreme Feedback, these guys are now known as Anubis Gate and release their third album under this name.
In contrast to the first two efforts, “Andromeda Unchained” surprises unpleasantly right from the start and, as we all know, the first impression is important when you make a view about something new. It is very likely that these notions will disappear with the hearing of the next minutes and there is surely a hope for it. Alas, this does not happen.
We have another example of negative development in the creative works of an experienced band. As before, the melodic line in the songs is preserved, but this time they are surprisingly foreseeable. Jacob Hansen does not give his best at the vocals, and the guitar duo doesn’t help much in the enrichment of the sounding. At the end, this is one bad combination of musical strains, which irritates the listener’s ears for more than an hour.
I can’t explain what is the reason for this lack of ideas, having in mind that Anubis Gate do have abilities to make something better. I also don’t see why they put those kind of long songs like the ten-minute “The End of Millenium Road”. It is not typical for their style, feels like a useless supplement and sounds like a copy of an old hard rock classic in its instrumental part.
“Andromeda Unchained” is a disappointing record, and I think that every fan of the band will be concordant with this conclusion.
