AMORAL Reptile Ride (2007)
01 October 2007
Such energetic death metal hasn’t smashed me for a long time! Amoral are not the most famous name in these spheres, but they make music that deserves to be heard from more people. Misguided by their creepy name, I almost missed this honored band. Now I know that I made a good choice by hearing “Reptile Ride”.
The guys involved in the realization of this third full-length record are young and inspired to introduce their own view of the classic death metal sound. This is a try to prove that the good times of the genre haven’t passed away, and that there is always hope that something may happen - not necessarily big, but interesting and catchy.
“Reptile Ride” is exactly the thing that can be expected to be created from a young set, which makes attempts to put some punch into a metal subgenre. They are really successful, if you ask me. The songs are fast, powerful and full to the brim with original solos, great guitar modulations and drum noise. The good synchronization between the instruments is improved by the brave inclusion of the harsh singing, which has the main role in strengthening the brutal sound of every song.
With so much of this quality modern death metal, the choice for a cover artwork for “Reptile Ride” is really inadequate. The modernization must not be at any cost, because there is a big risk in making something unconvincing or absurd. The cover of the album is the last thing that will give you an idea about the content of the ninth songs. Actually, Its Japanese version has tenth as a bonus for the crazy audience there.
Amoral may not reanimate death metal, but they are brave enough to give their contribution to the progress of its heavy variety in an interesting direction.
