APOCALYPTICA Worlds Collide (2007)
17 October 2007
Apocalyptica have changed so much that the association of their music to Metallica is happening not often lately. The different transformations became part of the band’s image and logically, the next portion of new music flowing from “Worlds Collide” is awaited with great interest and has a potential to give pleasure to many people.
It is nice that the Finns are keeping their specific sound and - although today they often use the cellos as a background for freezing melodies coming from other instruments, too - their main role is in the core of the album again.
The songs, which are more commercially sounding this time, are made again in tandems with famous vocalists and some great instrumentalists. This time the guests are Corey Taylor, Tomoyasu Hotei, Cristina Scabbia, Till Lindemann, Adam Gontier and (once again) the drum machine Dave Lombardо. The combinations with every one of them are successful, but in general these songs are not the best in “Worlds Collide”, although they’re really catchy.
Special attention is needed for the sudden diving into the storm of sounds in the other, fully instrumental cuts. The idea for heavy metal sound is saved, in some places with special accents as a proof of Apocalyptica’s success with a big amount of emotional charge.
You can easily listen to this album many times, because it does not inhibit. You can simply sit in front of the monitor, you can read a book or look at one point outside your window, and at the same time remain with a positive feeling towards the music. Some days later it is possible for you to forget the songs in details, but if this is the only problem in the new Apocalyptica album, we can forgive them. Their job is getting better with every attempt, so a few defects at this stage can be easily swallowed.
