I don’t know when bands like Mystic Prophecy will feel what a burden they are for the scene and when they will withdraw from it. Obviously, the moment for such a thing has still not come, and their new studio album is here for analysing... German power metal has old traditions and the band as its follower is walking straight on a track already built. “Satanic Curses” is the typical straightforward CD for this music region. If someone expected that the change of members in Mystic Prophecy will lead to some kind of development, this album will scream at his face that this can’t happen at the moment. The low spirits about this record may look strange at first, but when there’s not a single interesting song on it, the doubt that it will grab you is getting strong. This is the reason why describing the content of “Satanic Curses” is so difficult. What can be interesting in a monotonous singing, playing elementary melodies and drums that are bereft of creative range? It’s a pity that the Germans do not realize what they are doing. It’s a pity that there is nothing good here to talk about. The world would be a better place if such invented bands do not exist. In the beginning, the lack of experience and the diffidence is understandable, but after several albums such outrage on the listeners’ ears is unforgivable. “Satanic Curses” is a ridiculous attempt at demonstrating muscles that actually do not exist.
