It became some kind of tradition for the albums of Jon Oliva’s Pain to be released at the same time when there is a new disc from Circle II Circle - a band to which history 99% of the people from the first mentioned group are connected. That is exactly what gives us an occasion to search for similarities between the records of the bands which divided Savatage in two camps. I can’t loose the chance to notice that Jon Oliva’s band is doing its job better than the other group mentioned. All of Pain’s albums are stable and demonstrate confidence in the chosen creative direction. And what’s most important - the members succeeded to create their unique genre and at the same time to return us to the glorious past of the famous and wonderful pianist at the front, but give us also a great occasion to feel their individual and fresh approach to music. As you may guess, “Global Warning” is dedicated to problems on a large scale and in general repeats the ideas of ecologists. Oliva does not stop shouting to us with his typical threatening voice and says that everything is going in a bad direction with the planet suffering from our lack of interest in helping it and keeping it clean. In contrast to the hesitant previous attempts of Circle II Circle, Jon Oliva’s Pain sound mature and adequate to the present days. Not only the intention behind the lyrics, but also the building of the whole conception leaded by the topical themes are significant for the civil position of the musicians. However, we can not hide that these kinds of slogans are mainly boring, but there is also a big chance for them to grab your attention. The new album of maestro Oliva and his talented colleagues proves that this music is still developing, although with small and imperceptible steps. Savatage are in the past - welcome the third successful record of Jon Oliva’s Pain!
