Joe Satriani is one of the fewer guitarists who succeed in not loosing their measures in everything they do. No matter what the project the maestro is involved in is, every time things are created with fine taste and without twists and sets. His new album is his 12th, and it has a madly name - “Professor Satchafunkilus & The Musterion of Rock” - around which a long discussion evolved. In harmony with the gloomy cover artwork, the mood of the album can be defined as minor. Most of the songs are in mid-tempo and are subordinate to the funky sound, which is the favorite for teacher Joe these days. One exception makes the anthem song “I Just Wanna Rock”, which will easily make you beat time energetically in its rhythm. As a whole, the disc is not surprising. The well prepared Satriani fan will be pleased with the perfectly balanced guitar mixture, which is made with the help of the melodic rhythm section again. We should also mention the presence of the acoustic guitar - something not typical for the guitarist for his whole creative work until now. “Andalusia” can be easily mixed mistaken with a flamenco song if it wasn’t for its second part, in which Joe does not forget to demonstrate - as in a last song on an album - which is his latest trick when we talk about an electric instrument. I can admit that it is hard to write about “Professor Satchafunkilus & The Musterion of Rock” as slowly as I read without mistakes its title. Everything nice that can be told about Satriani has already been told. Every critic sounds not seriously when we talk about one of the most important names among the world's guitar masters. Joe Satriani shows us again a different face of his own that will certainly make many people see how the land lies for the topical funk theme, which will be a great achievement on his own.
