THE NIGHTWATCHMAN One Man Revolution (2007)
28 June 2007
When Audioslave vanished right after the release of “Revelations”, Tom Morello decided that it's time for a revolution. A one he can carry on his own. He's getting help only from the metaphysical images of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan... Just like that, right before the long-awaited reunion of Rage Against the Machine is nearer than ever. And how do you think he's going to do this political and artistic move within the framework of his first solo album? You're asking and I give you my humble answer: under the moniker The Nightwatchman and in a classic form, like everybody before him - with a single guitar on his shoulder and through folk rock songs, with an accent on the lyrics and simple melodies.
Being awfully hard for me to rate the message represented by “One Man Revolution“, having in mind my own geographical location and lack of interest in the political and social situation beyond the ocean and even here, there isn't anything left that could possibly catch my attention... except for Tom’s artistic approach... if there was any at all...
Well, it's not that he's not doing his job well. “One Man Revolution” probably would make a lot of people around the world raise their fists in the air, but to me it's extremely boring and stale... It just doesn't work... Otherwise there's nothing wrong with Tom, but if he wants to start a revolution, then he would eventually need his friends instead of nightwatching... as much, as they need him.
