WARDRUNA Runaljod – gap var Ginnunga (2009)
04 August 2009
You shall be listening to WARDRUNA, if not in seclusion, then at least in solitude. Maybe you will play it just to find out what is it about and even if you don't do it twice, you shall listen to the very end. If the melodrama of the "true norvegian black metal" was too much for you in some way, another or as a whole, Runaljod - gap var Ginnunga is your chance get a better idea historically, culturally and most of all emotionally harmonious about the distant north.
It's true that the networks of the meloman are overflowing with all kinds of authentic and not that much (neo)folk, spiritually and not that much engaging on a higher level. But the meditative tribal music bringing to mind endless spaces is creating so powerful anti-gravity field, so that the last thing you'll be thinking about would be rather "am I coming back same as before", than just engaging with the itching logic of the prejudices.
The reason why 'Runaljod – gap var Ginnunga' sounds so close to nature is actully because it was recorded by Her side. Among all the used authentic music instruments there are branches, rocks, birds and even steps in the snow taking part. And the final result is astonishing.
Conceptually this album represents part one of a Runaljod trilogy that's about to come. It portrays the runes of the elder futhark - the oldest runic alphabet. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elder_Futhark) Even though gap var Ginnunga sounds like one whole piece, it has 8 different parts, named after the runes Hagal, Bjarkan, Thurs, Jara, Laukr, Kauna, Algir Рё Dagr. Same goes for the upcoming two albums - Yggdrasill and Ragnarok.
We can't miss to mark the participation of Ghaal of Gorgoroth.
But if you've stopped wondering long ago "whether you'll be back the same" and frankly are looking for a fresh and worthy tripsitter, then you may have the chance to attend the completely fading veil between the subjective and objective truth, covering long forgotten in the individual neuron nonverbal knowledge. The neophit psychonaut will be laughing with tears in his eyes, while the synchronicities will be taking over the continuum. Straight from nature, ketamine free! At first sight the dark and hypnotic pagan performances may seem to get your fragile, under the influence of substances nerve system closer to doom. Instead you receive catharsis and sleep like a baby.
