If this album had been advertised in a more serious manner now everyone interested in the Bulgarian metal scene would have been drooling all over it. However, the Ruse-based band Overdawn had a rather shy approach to advertising their release due to the fact that the songs in it, as well as the recording itself date from a few years ago. Anyway, lets put the release's lack of actuality (something that exists mostly in the heads of the band members themselves) aside for a moment and concentrate at the CD itself, that has a really nice artwork by the way. In "Bleeding Wounds" Overdawn play the kind of music that you can call either alternative metal, crossover or nu-metal if you like. I call it "kick-ass music", because that's what we’re dealing with in this case. You have the raw aggression of the early Korn stuff, but also the heaviness and more technical approach of Slipknot and Mudvayne. There's also a strong influence by Deftones' rather alternative sound that can be felt here. At the same time, Overdawn manage not to sound as copycats of any of the bands mentioned above. In the CD we have mid-tempo crossover tunes ("Running Down the Road"), a lot of nicely done melodic moments (“Needed Sentiment”, “Broken”), as well as some borderline death metal moments (hear the end of "My Dummy"). The album makes a good impression in every aspect - interesting, multi-dimensional music, nice instrumental skills by the band, as well as decent sound quality, the last coming as kind of a surprise since the album is recorded in a rather unknown studio in the band's hometown. But what is good is good! The days when crappy sound would totally fuck up every Bulgarian band's release have finally passed. And soooo... What we have here is a release of superb quality that will most likely go unnoticed due to marginal reasons. And that’s actually such a pity since this is one of the most complete and well touched albums by a Bulgarian band in the last few years.
