LA MUCHEDUMBRE Куче да умре (2008)

It’s finally time for the dudes from La Muchedumbre to release an album. There’s hardly anyone in Bulgaria who hasn’t heard of them or doesn’t at least know they play ska. Lets clear this up anyway - they play ska. And they’re doing a pretty good job at it as their debut albums shows. In “Dog to Die” (that’s how the title should be translated from Bulgarian) we have punkier and more ska-oriented songs taking turns, which adds some needed variety and makes the album more accessible to people who don’t particularly like ska that much (like me, sorry). The CD starts with the energetic opener “Just One Day”, featuring some pretty catchy chorus. Next is “Nude Girl”, which is about a young teenager’s crush on a naked chick from a poster. In the punkier “Betrayed” we have lyrics both in English and Bulgarian, covering the good old story of traitors who smell like a rotten human being. “Back” is about a guy who was on the brink of suicide before 1989, then fled Bulgaria, but returned to his country eventually... and it’s one of the catchiest fast songs, by te way. There’s also a tune called “La Muchedumbre” that’s in Spanish. And it’s not that the music isn’t good on its own, but having some meaningful lyrics like in this case also adds quality to the big picture. As I said picture - the CD’s whole booklet(14 pages!) features a comic presenting the adventures of a few fans on their way to a La Muchedumbre gig. It deserves kudos on it’s own for the originality. The album is recorded at Pacific Studio and sounds convincing enough to have no grumbling people - only skanking ones. And, after all, there is point in listening to some ska, as this music attracts more fine ladies than Pig Destroyer and Dying Fetus, trust me. So next time La Muchedumbre are in town, throw away the footbag and beer and go to the damn show!
