She Was Asking for It are probably the first band in Bulgaria that can be labeled as a supergroup. The people involved are not just anybody, but Shuta (Vendetta), Lubo and Boro (Melekh), Lubo (eX), Bambi (O.H.) and Danio (O.H., Anamnasia). The other thing is that they play rarely together, and this is mostly a side-project for them. The dudes play some serious metalcore in the vein of the scene’s newer traditions. Like all of those American (and not only) bands from recent years that play thrash/death riffs while not forgetting the Swedish school, too, varying with hardcore breakdowns at places, and of course - clear singing here and there. And sound all the same… “The Downfall of Mankind”, on the other hand, is the first Bulgarian album where things are all in this vein, and so there’s no reason for it not to be interesting. Probably because the music is really good and is worth listening to. The attack starts off with “Children of the Doomsday”, goes through the title track that also has a video, the hit “Hurt” and ends with “Just Bleed for Me”, which goes from yet another dose of aggression to a surprisingly introverted and melodic moment right at the album’s end. I’d like to mention “The Show” too, probably my favorite track - a little more varied, featuring some funkier bass and a surprisingly classical outro riff. The sound could’ve been better, but the current quality doesn’t annoy at all anyway. The artwork looks like it’s done in a hurry, but that’s not the most important thing here. “The Downfall of Mankind” is the really confident first step in Bulgaria of a musical style that also has many fans here. Fans who deserve the opportunity to watch a really good Bulgarian band more frequently. Even if the style itself is pretty dead after being overflown by similarly sounding bands who totally dried out any euphoria that acts like Killswitch Engage had provoked 5-6 years earlier during the fall of nu-metal.
