I am not really to begin with praises on this underground band. They are old, they are cult, they are good as hell and they are as thrashy as few have been these years. Honestly, I never believed an album of theirs could beat the reunion record “The Art of Dying” and although this one here has proved me right, it is in no way a weak effort. On the contrary, it is a fine example of how catchy and melodious music is written. The punk influences demonstrated in “The Art of Dying” have given way to some kind of speed metal riffing or something. Death Angel have always come with some kind of really unique and outstanding thrash and they are still innovative though totally unpretentious. Obviously they are not afraid of mixing traditional trash metal with whatever comes to their minds, such as choral refrains and lots of acoustic parts, all of which well-arranged and mind-engaging. At first, I was ready to give this album a low rate because it just sounded strange. But a few more listens were enough to change my mind and I said to myself, “Wait, what have I been thinking? This album is overflowing with emotions, enthusiasm and pure American metal!” And I am still standing behind this. It is amazing how these Americans write such dynamic, totally moving and positive music. Instead of analyzing the record song by song, I’d rather state that they are all sober and tough, metallic and as punky as every old-school metal should be. This is where the might of this band is. They cannot possibly create a MTV hit but they sure are able to make your day a worthier one with their tunes and words. You do not believe me? Just give a listen or two to “Killing Season” and open your ears for a terrific thrash!
