BLACK LABEL SOCIETY Order of the Black (2010)
25 August 2010
"I kick back, listen to Zakk
The baddest motherfucker on the 6-string axe..."
It's worth listening to sertain words, especially when they are words of truth. In the eyes of the majority of fans Zakk is a legitimate guitar legend because of his perticipation in The Ozzy Osbourne Band. But it's his side projects that are significant to why Dimebag has dubbed Zakk "The baddest motherfucker on the 6-string axe".
So let's kick back and listen.
Black Label Society is under Wylde hegemony. He is a God-King and practices his power via an army of guitars under the walls of Marshalls and that's why the changes in the rhythm section have not affected the Band's sound. And since BLS has 8 albums out now, it is safe to speak about Black Label signature sound. That Sound that skips the forplay and kick in right in 6th gear (666th is you are the religious kind), and takes direct control of the neck and can turn headbanging into headbutting if the people around you have bad sence of rhythm (based on a true story).
Order of the Black blasts into combat speed right with the opening Crazy Horse, keeps it up with Overlord, goes on into Parade of the Dead. All these songs demonstrate why the good God (Lemmy) created the High Volume.
And here brother Zakk will kick the chair underneath your feet and leave you hanging on your expectations when you hear the first ballad of the album. That shouldn't be a surprise, actually. It's not like it's a secret that Zakk can play the piano, but maybe it's the jump from merciless fury to gentle melancholy that creates the shock of it all. And I mean "shock" in a good way here. These are songs that make you listen to them. Not so many of those these days, so credit is due.
The scheme of the album is basically: masacre-masacre-masacre-melancholy-masacre-masacre-melancholy-mass murder-genocide-WTF-masacre-melacholy to top it off. And one final thing - whatever direction Order of the Black takes you, it takes you all the way and full throttle, the way it should be. There's no middle way in real Rock&Roll
