WEIRD AL suing label for $5M
03 April 2012Pop parodist 'Weird Al' Yankovic is suing executives at Sony Music Entertainment over royalties from online record sales.
The Eat It hitmaker claims he's owed millions of dollars in unpaid royalties stemming from downloads and ringtones, according to a federal lawsuit filed in New York on Friday.
He's also demanding profits linked to the viewer hits racked up by his music videos on YouTube.com.
Yankovic is suing for compensatory damages in excess of $5 million.
His suit follows similar complaints lodged by artists including Tower of Power, Sister Sledge and Peter Frampton in a bid to secure lost revenue from digital music sales.
