THE EDGE's Mother Passes Away
15 June 2012Gwenda Evans, mother of U2's The Edge, passed away on Monday after a short illness.
She was in her late 70s.
She taught primary school for years and was a longtime singer in the local choir, too.
Together with her husband Garvin, she was a big supporter of a young U2.
Here's a quote from an interview with Mama Edge from 2008:
Q: Did you go to the early shows?
A: Oh yes. I was his first roadie! No, I'm laughing. I had an old Beetle and we'd be able to get the equipment in it.
He wasn't driving at that stage, so we used to go and pick him up and usually drop him off and then listen for a few and then go off and do something and then come back.
So, right from the start I enjoyed their music and what they were doing, right from the beginning. I still do.
