Watch the SOUND CITY PLAYERS in Action
21 January 2013After weeks, if not months, of waiting, last Friday night the world finally got to see what Dave Grohl’s SOUND CITY PLAYERS have been working on.
The band played a lengthy show that neared forty songs, comprised of various mini-sets, showcasing particular musicians at a time.
Throughout the two and a half hour set, Grohl was the only member to remain on stage for each song. Members of the Foo Fighters filled in as special guests showed up to make their mark.
Alain Johannes led a Queens Of The Stone Age-themed set of five songs. A particular gem came with a performance of Hanging Tree, featuring an introduction by Dave Grohl before he kicks in on bass. Yeah, that’s right, he plays bass too.
Next came another cluster of songs, featuring Chris Goss of Masters Of Reality.
Rage Against The Machine’s Brad Wilk helped out on drums to add some power, if one needed any more as the group tore through Domino and She Really Got Me.
Before the night was over, John Fogerty came out to play his Creedence Clearwater Revival hit Fortunate Son with the Sound City Players.
The Foos are no strangers to covering CCR live, so this collaboration was expected to be a staple of the show.
Luckily for fans of this new group, the Sundance gig was not the last. The Sound City Players are set to play a sold out show in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium on the 31st of this month.
