Former NIGHTWISH Frontwoman Discusses Christmas Album
20 August 2006"Back in 2003 I started to play with the idea to record an album for Christmas time. I have lots of nice memories of my family singing all together at that time of the year.
"For me, Christmas has always been a time to relax and enjoy the company of the loved ones. I wanted to do an album that represents what I would like myself to listen and that can keep the feeling of deep emotions of Christmas.
"There are so many beautiful melodies written for Christmas so I wanted to choose songs that can bring people the joy and delight of Christmas. I made a list of songs from Finnish traditional Christmas songs, some classical pieces, some pop ones and those ones that everybody knows around the world. Only one rule: no Christmas bells in the album!! I really don't like the continuing jingle bells commercial sound in Christmas songs in general.
"There was not enough time to do the complete album in a relaxed way for Christmas 2004, so we decided to record only two songs for a first single: 'Yhden Enkelin Unelma'. We worked the songs with producer Esa Nieminen at Finnvox Studios. 'Yhden Enkelin Unelma' includes 'En etsi valtaa, loistoa' and 'Kun joulu on'.
"We already started the recordings at Finnvox, again with Esa Nieminen to produce the full album that we imagined three years ago."
