In September 2012, the long-awaited new EP from Down was finally released, in the form of the short-but-awesome Down IV Part 1. Though the band still have three more parts of their album to record, lead singer Phil Anselmo has kept himself busy with more than one project recently, and just announced that he’s releasing his very first solo outing, with Walk Through Exits Only.

Set to drop on July 16th via Anselmo’s own Housecore Records label, the solo LP from the former Pantera frontman features a backing band called The Illegals – comprised of Marzi Montazeri on guitar and Jose Manuel “Blue” Gonzales on drums.

Running eight songs long, the aggressive Walk Through Exits Only was described by Anselmo as being far from “a paint-by-numbers thrash or heavy metal record.”

The singer added:  ”It’s an angry album that only I could do.  I don’t see anybody else out there screaming about the same shit I’m screaming about.  On this album, there isn’t any wordplay, there isn’t any hidden message, it’s all right there in front of you.”

Expect Phil Anselmo and The Illegals to follow the release of Walk Through Exits Only with a North American tour this summer.
