Original GREAT WHITE bassist Lorne Doyle, better known as Lorne Black, passed away on September 27th, no details on the cause of death have been released.

Former GREAT WHITE vocalist Jack Russell shared the sad news today, stating "It is with great sadness that we have been informed of the passing of Lorne Black yesterday! Our hearts go out to his family, friends and fans. Lorne was a huge part of the first incarnation of Great White! May he rest in peace."

Black formed GREAT WHITE with Russell and guitarist Mark Kendall in 1982, when the band changed their name from Dante Fox.

With GREAT WHITE, Black released 1983's 'Out Of The Night' EP, 1984's self-titled debut, 1986's 'Shot In The Dark' and 1987's double platinum 'Once Bitten...', which contained the charting singles 'Rock Me' and 'Save Your Love'.

Black would be replaced by Tony Montana when the band reached their commercial peak with 1989's '...Twice Shy'.

Black would later take the band to court over a royalty dispute, but the claim was rejected.
