U2 have contributed a new song entitled 'Ordinary Love' to the forthcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

It was written specifically for the film, and marks the band’s first original composition in three years. You can preview the song in a new trailer for the film, below. And yes, that’s Idris Elba, a.k.a. Stringer Bell from The Wire, playing Mandela.

In related news, bassist Adam Clayton revealed to Irish radio station 98 FM (via DiffuserFM) that the band is about a month away from completing their new studio album.

We’re in the studio,” Clayton said.

We’re trying to get these 12 songs absolutely right and get them finished by the end of November, and then we can kind of enjoy Christmas.”

It marks the band’s 13th album to date and follow-up to 2009′s Line on the Horizon.

Clayton went on to describe it as “a bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years,” he said.

It’s a combination of those two things and it’s a really interesting hybrid.

For the album, the band has worked alongside Brian Burton, a.k.a. Danger Mouse.
