The details of a second John Peel day have been announced to honour the late-great DJ.

The day will be held on October 12, when bands, artists, DJs and promoters across the land will be encouraged to hold concerts and club nights.

It follows the John Peel day last year where over 500 music events took place in tribute to the legendary broadcaster.

Radio 1 will be presenting coverage from the various shows as they happen.

John’s widow Sheila Ravenscroft said: "I hope many bands and venues will want to celebrate John's anniversary. Everyone should have a fantastic night."

Radio 1 themselves are planning their own John Peel night, which will tentatively take place at the end of October.

John Peel died of a heart attack while on holiday in Peru on October 25, 2004.
