Having already tackled Arcade Fire’s “Ready to Start” and Hot Chip “And I Was A Boy From School”, TEARS FOR FEARS are back with their latest indie-friendly cover in the form of Animal Collective’s “My Girls”.

With their version, TEARS FOR FEARS maintain the rollicking and enthusiastic spirit of the original, capitalizing on its infectious chorus and gradual build. But with the addition of vintage synths and percussion, not to mention those vocal interludes via Wall-E, they’ve brought AnCo back into mid-’80s New Wave. Doc Brown be damned.

Watch the corresponding visualizer below, directed by artist/musician Vinyl Williams (A.K.A. the son of iconic composer John Williams).

As noted, TEARS FOR FEARS recorded these covers to help “kick-start the recording process” of their forthcoming seventh studio album. Their first since 2004′s reunion record Everybody Loves A Happy Ending, it’s due out sometime in 2014.
