Post-rock fans rejoice, MOGWAI’s latest isn’t due for release until the 20th, but it’s available now for streaming on their label’s Soundcloud. 

Their first album that is neither a soundtrack or remix record since 2011′s Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will, Rave Tapes continues their recent direction, going high on atmosphere, light on guitars (relatively, at least), and letting the vocoders and grime-covered synths pull more weight than ever.

Rock ‘Like Herod’ this does not, but this band has never been about easy listens and Rave Tapes appears to be another strong entry in this band’s catalogue.

A slow dirge to begin, it ramps up to anthem status (or what could reasonably be called an anthem in this band’s lexicon) with video game synths riding a heavy groove.
